The AEG Turbinen Fabrik in Berlin was designed by Peter Behrens and built in 1909. Behrens was first retained to design specialized light fixtures for the company. With both efforts the goal was to elevate functionality of the space to support factory workers. The iconic nature of the resulting structure and the fact that it ushered in modern architecture was a side benefit.
