On April 15, 2020, I had a conversation with my colleague Charles Hemminger where we both wondered out loud how the social spaces that we love to design were going to survive the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. What happens to architectural spaces that thrive on human interaction when the simple act of being in the same place together is severely limited?
It was clear that many of our friends, collaborators, and clients were wondering the same thing. So we began to write, to speak, and to listen — collecting our thoughts along with the input of over fifty notable contributors from the retail and restaurant industry.
The result is a treatise that continues to evolve as we find the time to incorporate new information. We hope that some find this useful. We look forward to sharing space again soon.
